Dub fun in the summer sun, well kind of

One of the great characteristics of Guilfest is their willingness to put on bands who only briefly stuck their head out into the world of mainstream success, but who spend most of their time living in the world of the cult following. Dredzone are a classic example of such an act.

The rain had stopped, giving way to, er, well it wasn’t raining but you’d hardly call it a proper summer’s afternoon. There’s a decent crowd in front of the Ents 24 Stage for this early afternoon appearance of Dreadzone and despite the lack of a baking sun, their mixture of dub and reggae with folk, dance and rock certainly got the party spirit going.

With over fifteen years behind them, Dreadzone certainly have the art of working a crowd mastered. Front man Mark Chadwick turned in an energetic performance, a given usually but more impressive given the crutches he was carrying. Set closers ‘Ganster’ and their one top twenty success ‘Little Britain’ generated great reactions, with Dreadzone exiting the stage having confirmed that they’re ideal material for firing up a festival.
