Rubella - Camden Barfly

“We are Rubella from Singapore” said Anouska, the lead singer and guitarist of the all girl three piece band from London, which summed up perfectly the fun element of this full on rocking band. Thankfully they do not just rely on their banter with each other and the crowd, their music speaks volumes on its own.

Right from the off with debut single Napalm, Rubella shocked the venue to its core, almost as if the violent storms that drenched London outside had moved on to the stage. The killer tunes continued with Fake The Way You Move To Beauty and Wasted Jesus, songs with serious attitude which Anouska carries on whilst talking to the crowd with a wicked sense of humour. The attitude fits in perfectly with the venue being decked out in North Korea and the former USSR flags. Bassist Gemma does not follow the same vein as her colleague and is a lot more smiley to the crowded Barfly.

The nine song set was full to the brim with class throughout, including the debutant live performance of 'No Evil' and 'Arbeit', the soon to be released, second single. All songs were played tight, which considering the refusal to play simple riffs is extremely impressive. Having already had airplay on XFM and 6 Music, as well as recently playing on the Levis One To Watch gig, there is an air of real possibility that this band could go far.
