Metal At Its Best
Taking to Stage 2, Norwegian metal band Susperia had a huge task ahead of them to draw a crowd as their set started as metal giants W.A.S.P drew to a close, and ran parallel to Saturday headliners Queensryche. With only a handful of people lined up in front of the stage, I feared that this set would be a flop.
However, I couldn’t have been more wrong. As the powerhouse fired up with frontman Athera’s metal roar, a shiver ran down my spine. The music was meaty; the vocals menacing; the head-banging wild and long hair was flying everywhere: Metal at its best.
It wasn’t long before the crowd grew as interested passers-by stopped and stared, mesmerised by the fierce Vikings’ performance. The guys interacted brilliantly with their audience and they responded enthusiastically. With metal horn salutes aplenty and cheeky smiles for the women, these guys had everyone in the palms of their hands.
I think if Susperia had had an earlier set so they weren’t clashing with the headliner, they would have drawn a much bigger crowd, which they completely deserved. Once again Scandinavia has produced a monster metal band, showing us Brits how it’s done. Their performance was second to none; I’m very much looking forward to hearing more from them in the future.
