The Goldtones @ Guilfest Saturday Surrey Advertiser Tent
Second on the Surrey Advertiser stage doesn’t do them justice, as Woking-based The Goldtones provided a performance worthy of a much later start for a packed tent.
Pulling in one of the biggest crowds of the weekend for the Surrey Ad tent, the alternative pop-rock quartet reveal a darker side to their otherwise fresh-faced reputation, including debutant performances of unheard new tracks.
Opening with potential chart hit ‘Night Time Lies’, the band start to magnetise the masses and define their stage objective from the word go. With maturity seeping from their pores (or should that be strings?), The Goldtones reveal their inner aggressive rock with following tracks ‘The Weather’ and an atmospheric cover of Bill Wither’s ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’.
For a band who consist of members still unable to vote or drink (legally) in England, Muse, Beatles and Queens Of The Stone Age influences air almost immediately and are ever present in their instantly catchy newest track ‘Hasty Retreat’. However - stage presence still needs a little work.
With the debut self-titled EP selling well in both hard copy and on iTunes, the band didn’t disappoint loyal fans, playing ‘Turquoise’ and ‘It’s Alright’ from their first release. Catchy romantic-comedy favourite ‘Next To Me’ came second to last and the band (who were also camping and enjoying the experience) pulled ‘Bad Dream’ out to close the set.
For such a young line-up, The Goldtones are quickly emerging as a Boileroom favourite and a must see in the Guildford area. www.myspace.com/thegoldtonesuk
