Futures @ Guilfest Saturday 17th July Rock Sound Cave
Hotly tipped as the best new British band by critics and artists themselves, Futures - fronted by ex Tonight is Goodbye’s Ant West - stormed Guilfest’s Rock Sound Cave and came away as strong contenders for the act of the weekend.
After giving away a 7-track EP on the front cover of Rock Sound magazine earlier this year and helping the publication sell a record number of copies since most can remember, the boys have not looked back. Despite clashing with the festivals highly anticipated special guests N-Dubz, Ant and co provided a buzzing star-lit tent with a fantastic and solidly tight set.
“We know you are all missing N-Dubz to see us so cheers” was met with both sarcastic laughter and boos (aimed away from Futures of course), indicating that although some may have wished to catch both acts, plenty of those present in the cave were not in that number.
Well rehearsed and pumped, Futures entertained the teenage rockers with a collection of sing-along tracks including recommended downloads ‘Holiday’ and ‘Sixteen’. It’s difficult to argue their popularity after such a short time on the circuit when the crowds pay this type of attention to the conscientious pop-rock sound Futures deliver.
Ending the set on Radio 1 favourite and their contagiously energetic first release ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ (video by Sitcom Soldiers) caused a second burst of frenzy and a huge crowd thumbs up. By encompassing Jimmy Eat World enthusiasm and You Me At Six hookline choruses, Futures prove just why their September nationwide tour is selling out fast. Next stop - Sonisphere.
