DZ Deathrays at Swn 2011

It's the start of day three at Swn Fest and the opening set at Buffalo Bar comes from Australian duo DZ Deathrays. It's just 2.30 in the afternoon and this is one of two sets the duo will be playing today, yet the young garage rockers still give this set their full attention. Their front man moves about like a man possessed, breaking a sweat in the first song and yet he still pumps out great, expressive vocals and nice distorted riffs.

They make a huge noise for just a duo, at times it's an intense barrage of fuzz and pounding, but their crowd pleasing scuzzy guitar and impressive drumming produce grooveable and sexy tunes you can move to. They feel something like Death From Above 1979, but heavier, with meatier and at times metal inspired riffs, making for quite an addictive combination. There is a respectable crowd here to watch the Brisbane two piece and they're hugely appreciative, making you feel you've stumbled on to the next big thing, which is entirely possible based on this performance.
