Eagles of Death Metal Live at Leeds

Atmosphere certainly isn't lacking when Californian rockers Eagles of Death Metal take to the stage. Frontman Jesse Hughes puts some serious drive into the band, cheered on by an onslaught of clearly enthusiastic fans at the front and a chant of "chug chug chug" he elegantly polishes off something alcoholic given to him by guitarist Dave Catching and storms straight through their opener I Only Want You. There's the usual chant of "Yorkshire, Yorkshire" as the band mention their upcoming performance at Reading on Sunday. There's a healthy glow surrounding bassist Brian O'Connor, after being diagnosed with cancer in late 2010 and allegedly committing suicide back in June, as he jumps and skips around the stage to the band's hit Cherry Cola and shares a joke with Hughes over the purpose of English Girl. Eagles of Death Metal are a polished yet entertaining band that really do show others how make an early appearance on a festival main stage look good and worth watching.
