Sonic Boom Six at Hit The Deck 2013
Having been given one of the earliest set times of the day, it was good to see that Sonic Boom Six had pulled a healthy sized crowd into their show at the O2 Academy.
As soon as Sonic Boom Six bounced onto the stage and started playing the crowd started bouncing around with them. The Manchester five-piece have expanded their musical style over the years, when I first saw them they were heavily in the ska-punk genre, but now the cross over into pop and rock. And, for lack of a better description, they also now look a lot more "chavvy" than they used to.
The band's stage set up was lacking the lasers they had on stage last time I saw them, but that was to be expected at a small festival show. The lazers were the only thing missing though, as like always, their songs were packed full of clever choruses, catchy riffs and smart beats and breaks.
With the O2 Academy being a reasonable walk from the wristband collection point, its fair to say that everyone at Sonic Boom Six's show were not only glad they put on an entertaining and lively performance, but were also glad that Hit The Deck fell on a sunny and warm day.
