Two Furious

Deux Furieuses may well be a band name I can't pronounce properly, I can hear my old French teacher tutting, but it is a band name you should definitely make a note of judging by their performance at London's Borderline supporting the legendary John Parish.

The all-female two piece did not hang around in convincing the crowd, which included some notable names from the music world, that their blend of hard hitting aggressive rock infused with harmonious melodies is a real treat to your ears.

Despite only being two members, the combination of guitar and drums created a more powerful and complete sound than many traditional four or five piece bands can only dream of. There were no gimmicks, just two talented musicians whose instruments and vocals worked perfectly together and these were not your basic tunes, the songs were full of timing changes, extravagant riffs and impressive time signatures. It was pretty mesmerising, I could have watched the drummer play all night due to the ingenuity of the playing skills. And before anyone complains, yes - the guitarist was equally skilled and a pleasure to watch too.

The sound, as always with Borderline, was superb. The crowd were well behaved - hardly a murmur was heard from those at the bar talking to themselves, maybe thanks to the band but made for a pleasant change. One member of the audience shouted out "who are you? You rock!" and when that happens you know you are onto a winner.

With a debut album due to be released soon(ish), the future is very bright for these two furious girls.
