PJ Bond Live

PJ Bond recently completed a lengthy run of UK shows which reportedly led to him being spotted by Frank Turner and found himself instantly being invited to join Frank on a handful of UK shows to promote his new album Positive Songs For Negative People.

The Garage was a busy little sweatbox on Friday night as people crammed into the venue to watch an exclusive ballot-entry performance. Despite sounding a bit more ‘country’ than the show’s headliner, PJ instantly won the crowd over with his blend of upbeat tunes whose catchy choruses often hide the track’s dark content, although, they do tend to be laced with humour - Everglades is the perfect example of how PJ takes on a heavy subject matter but lightens the mood with lyrics such as; “I could take him down to the Everglades for you.”

PJ’s set is heavy in nostalgia but relationships are a key factor in his music, performing alone on stage with nothing but an acoustic guitar seemed to add another layer of vulnerability to tracks such as Broad Street and Hellfire, although at some points you could not hear him over the general noise in the room.

PJ Bond has created a bunch of emotive but enjoyable songs, which the American singer-songwriter delivered pitch perfectly, showing those at the Garage that punk and country can create something glorious when mixed together.
