The Calling - Things Will Go My Way
So, a new outing for peroxide pop-rockers The Calling. A-side Things Will Go My Way sounds like Creed, and B-side When It All Falls Down sounds a bit like Puddle of Mudd or something. I’m still waiting for The Calling to do something a bit different, go out on a limb and produce a record resembling distinctiveness. That would indeed be refreshing.
Oh, maybe they’re just not that sort of band. They do the whole cheesy guitar pop thing well enough, with some nice vocal melodies and epic production values. The acoustic guitar in Things Will Go My Way is nice, and the vocals sound a little less contrived than usual in When It All Falls Down. Girls will continue to scream, I’m sure – it’s that kind of sound and image.
But... hmm, I don’t know. It doesn’t do it for me. Maybe I’m a grumpy old man before my time, and maybe my grouchiness was heightened by the fact that the CD case was broken and wouldn’t open for about ten minutes, but I’m getting increasingly weary of music like this. Still, not an abominable pop single, I suppose.
