Another charitable offering
There seems to be some kind of a fashion at the moment and this fashion is called charities. Everyday you hear on the radio or see on TV another organisation willing to help somebody, or give money to certain people or whatever.
'Caught in the Net' is no exception. Once again an album that is made to help and this time it is to benefit homeless people all over the world.
If you buy this album not only will you make your conscience feel better (10% of the proceeds will go to Big Issue International) but you will also enter a draw where you could win a trip to the 'Austin City Limits Music Festival' in the US. I will explain to you how to enter the draw later.
This double album is the first compilation from the internet radio called Spyradio. It contains studio outtakes and live versions of tracks from all kind of genres such as country, blues, traditional rock and even folk sound! How amazing is that! Well even if everything has been done for a good reason those CDs were real nightmares to listen to.
I guess you have to be a fan of country music to appreciate it but honestly .. more than 20 ballads in country style, with almost the same lyrics and sound- it was more than I could take! Or maybe I do not have enough maturity to understand it. Who knows!
Fortunately enough some blues tunes came along which made it more bearable like 'Valentine' by Ezio or The Redlands Palomino Co. with 'Goodbye Love'.
Other than that nothing original or exciting. The production is excellent, the quality of the sound as well, but the songs themselves are sometimes dull and flat. Let's just hope that the second compilation will have more diversity!
At least Spyradio sticks to its motto as you will not find any commercial tracks. Their goal is to put on air songs that you will not hear on any terrestrial station. When listening to the album you sometimes understand why they are not...
Anyway if you fancy some country style music and want to buy the album, it is out the 8th July. If you happen to be one the first 4,000 people to buy it through their website (www.spydarecords.co.uk), you will enter the draw mentioned previously and win a trip to Austin, Texas, spend three days there and attend the festival. Good luck!
