Painfully Average
I seem to be finding it increasingly hard to be impressed by music these days. Jimmy Eat World’s latest single isn’t by any means bad enough to play the 'painful' pun, but it would be similarly inappropriate to smugly declare that it 'takes our pain away'...
So, what is it? Well, it’s just under three minutes of up-tempo, inoffensive pop rock. It’s easy enough to listen to, and it’ll probably get you nodding your head semi-appreciatively, but that’s pretty much it. A few nice chord sequences. Nice production.
Somehow, it seems to be lacking a real hook. It all sounds surprisingly monotone, never really lifts or goes anywhere different. Sure, it’s easy enough to have on in the background, but it’s average.
