Short Sharp Shock!
'Just Friends' is taken from the album 'Everything Is' and comes on the back of a busy summer for Nine Black Alps. Well received slots at various festivals have served them well as they head out on their own headline tour in October/November, several of the dates of which have sold out.
At not far over two minutes the radio edit of 'Just Friends' is the perfect length, short, succinct and totally to the point! Nine Black Alps have produced a fairly flawless slab of indie/punk power loveliness. 'Just Friends' is fast, tuneful, powerful and upbeat (in a positive, happy way). It steers away from the rather turgid garage grind of many of their contemporaries, opting instead for a tune so full of energy and catchiness that it's guaranteed to get even the most miserable of crowds moving.
If forced to plump for an influence, on this evidence you'd have to say The Buzzcocks; Nine Black Alps inject the same optimism into their music and much as The Buzzcocks were a breath of fresh air amongst a plethora of similar sounding bands, so it appears are Nine Black Alps. Sterling stuff.
