Why do Bees hum?

"When We Talk of Horses" commences in such a sing-song fashion that it reminds me of Rod, Jane and Freddy more than an "up and coming" act. This is like a song that the presenter would sing on one of those lame pseudo-educational kids shows on early in the mornings. Frankly, it's bloody irritating!

Such a shame as there are some really lovely moments in the music. The combination of both bass and cello with the guitars being particularly pleasing. As it happens, the song that starts in this structured annoying nursery-rhyme style actually evolves into something much more interesting towards the end of the track. I'm afraid that by then I'm spoilt though, having been tarnished by being subjected to such patronising singing. I feel as if I'm three again and I don't want to feel like that.

In the same vein as the end of the single, the B-side is much more pleasant; really utilising the cello and their voices into beautiful and at times quite chaotic, melodies. Perhaps Red Bee Society have chosen the wrong single. Maybe they're trying to be a bit kooky like early Flaming Lips when they should concentrate more on their beautiful instrumental work which reminds me of Yo La Tengo or Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

Not a complete write-off, but right now this is one of the last singles I'd be rushing down to HMV to purchase.
