Oklahoma rockers give us some Grunge

Move over Chad Kroeger, your little brother is here! Well, perhaps not quite but Hinder's "Get Stoned" certainly bears more than a passing resemblance to the aforementioned artist. Straight away, we have that smokey, grungey rock voice, which moves into the higher, not quite screaming range. Taken from the band's first album, "Extreme Behaviour", this single melodically powers through in a somewhat predictable fashion. Think American. Think almost like Creed and Pearl Jam, only slightly higher pitched and you have Hinder.

It is similar to a couple of "Alter Bridge" tracks. You could imagine this track being on the soundtrack of a Hollywood blockbuster. The sound is quite rich however, with some nice lead and rhythm guitars, clean and distorted. It is grunge, make no doubt about that. It's catchy in places; some of the lyrics are somewhat memorable with lines like "Go home. Get stoned. Because the sex is so much better when you're mad at me". It's not without it's moments.

The production does seem fairly tight and at the end of the day, this band from Oklahoma can feel proud that they've released a single that's a slight cut above the rest of modern, American post-grunge scene, though on its own, I get the feeling that the rest of the album probably isn't worth listening to. If you are a fan of a slightly warmer, less heavy version of Alter Bridge or Chad Kroeger, give them a listen. You won't go too far wrong.
