nothing like opera
Sounding young, fashionable and nothing like "opera in a tin can" as they ironically claim, Operahouse deliver two catchy guitar pop tunes on their debut single 'Man Next Door'.
Describing their music as "disco beats/chop guitar", the four students from Camden combine ska with the sleaze of the Arctic Monkeys and the tambourines of Franz Ferdinand. Vocalist Johnny Lloyd has the same tone as Steve Bays from Hot Hot Heat. Considering all this you could say that there is nothing original about Operahouse but so what? They grab your attention, play what you want to hear and play it well.
At only two and a half minutes each, 'Man Next Door' and B-side 'Wrecking Ball' are straight to the point and don't outstay their welcome which makes a change from the many self indulgent guitar bands. Currently on tour and catching the attention of XFM and Zane Lowe, these are definitely worth a listen even if opera isn't your thing.
