Psycho-Babble
"I'm so bored. Bored of being bored. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired." I'm barely 30 seconds in and Hypo Psycho are describing exactly what I'm thinking. Bands in this genre seem unending. But why? It tries to be punk, but is way too commercial and fails miserably. It nudges at Nu-Metal, but even that genre would feel that admitting Hypo Psycho to its ranks would be an utter disgrace. I'd almost call it Pop but that only serves to offend Pop maestros such as Kylie, Britney and Robbie Williams. For love them or loathe them, they're great at what they do and are truly Pop Stars.
So where does Hypo Psycho fit?
Who cares?! So long as it's not in my CD collection. "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired." Such NA (Narcotics Anonymous), 12-Step words. Are we supposed to think you're cool 'cause you've done drugs? Or even sadder, are you using those lyrics under the pretence that you're all squiffy on narcotics like your idols.
I just don't buy this whole package. And I can't see to what demographic it would appeal, If it's to those young uns just beginning to explore the world of Alternative music.... Well I don't think that they should be subjected to lyrics and a band that are trying too hard to fit into this image of delinquency. That's not cool!
It's not even poppy enough for the commercial super-powers to latch onto it, so there's no chance it'll get caught up on their play list of cheese with which they indoctrinate the masses.
Maybe I've got it wrong? Maybe Hypo Psycho are using their music to explore and express the inner workings of their minds throughout their dabbling with substances. Well even so, couldn't they explore it more subtly? Think Chili Peppers Anthony or the allegorical lyrics of The Beatles.
Hypo Psycho's music serves no purpose other than to satisfy their own egos. With thousands of bands out there with real talent who struggle to get noticed, it annoys me to hear bands like this with publishing and record deals. Thick music by thick people made for people in dire need of some musical education!
