Idiot 3 – Reasons
It's easy to tell that the members of Idiot 3 have been playing together since they were at school. Considering the band only officially formed in mid 2006, Idiot 3 have already established their own particular brand of polished commercial pop-rock that can be easily compared to Emo bands such as My Chemical Romance. Their music has a softer edge however, and their single, 'Reasons', features smooth, atmospheric verses that blend into a bursting chorus of pounding drums and layered vocal harmonies, as well as the obligatory quiet segment that builds into a crescendo to lead the song out. The track is sure to bring good things thanks to its radio-friendly, upbeat quality and likeability, despite being a song about the problems in a deteriorating relationship.
The B-side track, 'Alive In Blue', is a brooding ballad that smacks of boy-loses-girl teenage angst. It may not be as good as the first track but features elements of its own that make it stand out, like the soaring chorus that weaves throughout the song and the uplifting guitar lead that prevents it from falling into depressing territory. All the elements are there, so while it may be predictable and slightly cheesy, this single is a good standard of the pop-rock style that is increasingly proving so popular in the mainstream arena.
