Pleasant shoegazer pop has been trashed for being, quite frankly, boring. But for all that it fills a hole in the soundtrack to the typical day. Deportivo is exactly that; pleasant shoegazer. It will never be appropriate for those moments of passion when you find out that someone you love has died, or when your best mate steals your girlfriend. But for all those everyday moments, which, lets be honest, tend to be quite frequent, this is just the right stuff. The lyric “It’s just a song” on the track 'Girl Next Door' could remind you of those kings of the everyday; the Ordinary Boys, but in reality Deportivo are a little removed. They are not the type to tell you that your life sucks, but will quietly pat you on the back, and get on with the important business of Life. With roots in Britpop and the like, they are here to celebrate a life more ordinary. And they will do it well.
