Head On Collision

The Datsuns explode out of the speakers with this single. Banging into your head like a baseball bat with a nuclear tip, this number cannot fail to impress. There is so much upfront rock that it’s almost a landslide. Matt Datsun’s drumming is a frenzied backdrop for the axe work of Christian Datsun to shine against. The vocals have a slightly disembodied sound to them that drops perfectly into place on this number. If you want to look at a musical comparison then try the mighty Led Zeppelin, it will be no surprise to find something similar, as the guys benefit from having John Paul Jones on board as producer. This serves to enhance an already great sound and lifts it to further heights.

“Good Luck….You’re Gonna Need It” has a switch in sound and there are clear influences of AC/DC. However, as good as it is and with powerful bass and axe work from both Christian and Phil, it’s not quite up to the sound of “Blacken My Thumb”.

Then there’s “Burst Your Bubble”, which takes you back to that original sound and with the screaming vocals of Dolf, which shows The Datsuns at their best.

Fast and Furious, this is a head on collision of sound by a group that threw away the brakes.
