Lackluster yet solid
These crazy Aussies are back again with another release from "In Silico". As a whole, I felt that album was somewhat weaker in comparison to their first album. And this single is somewhat weaker than the successful "Granite". It lacks a little bit of grunt and passion. Indeed, it's one of these tracks off the album that I felt, leant the album a significant mellow feel.
That said, the sample work is pretty top notch as you'd expect from this tight band. The original mix contains a few repeated lines of "The shit is coming down" and an instrumental introduction which are both absent from the radio edit. Largely, the tune is a counterpoint between the male digitized vocals and the monotone, broken female speech which sounds, not robotic per-se but generally broken and almost Stephen Hawking-esque.
The VIP mix is a significant change from the original and is a worthy addition to the single. The Dubstep Mix adds some orchestra samples and some rather annoying distorted bass over the top which, sadly, is repeated quite a lot throughout the song. With the odd "Come on down to the other-side" being the only common denominator, this mix could have been left off.
Not their strongest single for sure.
