No Brokeback here!

Colt.44. Sounds like a good, metal / rock name for a band. Well, Bruce Dickenson certainly seems to think so, giving these new-comers a little air time. Can't be half bad then? Not at all for a band who look about 7 years old.

Generally, their sound is heavy with down-tuned riffs, loads of melody and classic Rock solos. THe singing isn't so bad either, will little gutteral or stereotypical metal sound. There's a blend of modern American Rock, Punk, and Grunge. There are hints of Killswitch Engage, Seether and perhaps a little Ill Nino as well. For newcomers, the sound and production isn't too bad. Still needs work but a promising start.

'Sick' and 'These Scars' are quite energetic and give the album some bite. "Come home" shows the band at its most vulnerable with the almost completely acoustic, with just a small amount of electric at the end. A nice mix and certainly unexpected.

Despite the cowboy sounding name Colt.44 are definitely not a hillbilly country band. Perhaps the band are edging towards Metallica? The riffs aren't quite catchy enough for that high honor but these boys do show some promise. They border on punk and it's nice to hear that.

These Londoners may sound out of place here in the UK, but their music might be enough to have them one day gaining stadium status - hard rock as it should be. From the heavier 'I Refuse' with its incessant "hey hey's" to 'See You Smile', a grungier, almost Nirvana type whining. Sounds like an American sound doesn't it? Sure, but you can't mistake the UK undertones on this album. A good start and definitely worth a listen.
