A softer driven guitar sound
This Providence kick this album off with a guitar lead song, Well Versed In The Ways Of The World. There are many layers of sound to this number and the vocals and guitar work are very well interwoven, creating a rythmic pattern. This number has some great lines in it, such as "Yeah I still hold on to this foolish hope, take it or leave it it's only a matter of life or death".This leads into the more vocal tracks, Truth And Reconciliation, and Everyday, both of which have a very melodic sound and feel to them, which gives them good depth. There is real pain in the vocal interpretation here and the band communicate this well. People will be able to connect to this. Best Wishes is the next number and is very soft and full of melody, as is To Kill This and Certain Words In Uncertain Times. The latter number manages to put you in mind of summer and contains some very poetic lyrics, such as "While forever seems to take its time." and "Where did our hero go and who did he dine with?" This is a real top down and cruising number, there is something of the sixties that floats out of the speakers here.
Catching My Breath is a song full of great lyrics that are well presented, whilst Twisted System works the bands vocal skills extremely well and is backed by deeper guitar work. If there is one thing that this band know how to do, it is to push harmony to the front. Any Romantic Fairytale steps the pace up a little and in doing so gives you an indication of what this band can do given that heavier beat to work with. It is a shame that they do not do more of this as it is obvious that they have the ability to carry their talent across into this style. Finally, Our Flag Is White is a number that could have really flown if it had been given a heavier or darker treatment by the band.
