Throughout the UK there's a burgeoning musical movement that strives on its commitment, humour and dedication. Adding its homecoming direction and grounding to its more corporate American counterpart of My Space, Hot Topic
and Vans; there is a UK scene of rock music that is tied together by a network of independent promoters, websites, labels, fanzines and music lovers, producing continual good band after the next. There has yet to be a band to step forward, to take charge, and add a new face to British rock music. Step forward My Awesome Compilation.
Originally born from convenience, obvious family ties (the band consist of two sets of brothers) other band splits and shared influences; My Awesome Compilation first came into fruition at their East Midlands hometown some 4
years ago. A release on the BSM label ('Every Souvenir Has A Story' 2002) gave them their admittedly low-key introduction to the world. Next came a trip out to West Cost America to record their second ep, 'The View Is Amazing', courtesy of Bravestar Records. Released in 2004 on Sorepoint / Bravestar it allowed the band to grow within the limits of the UK scene and network that they in part became involved in creating. Musically and professionally, it was time to take a step forward.
The potential for this all started with the recording and demo-ing of the bands debut album. Titled 'Actions' (released on Sorepoint Records August 2005), recorded with Larry Hibbet of Hundred Reasons manning production duties, it's a piece of work that represents a massive development for the band. "Time seems to have changed so much since 'The View Is Amazing'", states Andy, drummer, "we've all matured a lot music-wise, we've experienced so much and now seem to know what we want as individual songwriters." Keyboardist Woody backs up, "while recording The View Is Amazing it wasn't so much a creative process like the album. We went in and basically recorded songs we knew, this time though the songs grew through out and we all had so much creative input." "It was such a great time" says singer Chris, "we decided on the title 'Actions' as the song titled on the album was the first track we demo-ed with Larry and that song in particular seems to carry a lot of the attitude of the whole album."
