Sleazy Rock 'n' Roll at its best...
After the glowing reception they received for the 'Here Comes A Close Up' EP and having played with the likes of The Wildhearts, The Datsuns and Kings of Leon, The Glitterati have little left to prove. But once again, the band returns with a single that shows why their description as 'the future of Rock 'n' Roll' is a valid one.
'You Got Nothing On Me' swaggers in with a heavy drumbeat and provocative bluesy guitar riff before Paul Gautrey's sexy, hypnotic vocals cut through. The big guitar sound of this song is reminiscent of The Datsuns', while its undulating rhythms and blistering hard rock solos make this a song that you can easily visualise being played live - close your eyes and you can almost smell the sweat and cigarette smoke.
'Skin Tight' is equally, if not more, impressive than the single itself. As its name suggests, it oozes sex appeal from the moment its dirty bass line begins, through its sleazy Rock 'n' Roll guitar hooks, to its brilliantly seductive chorus.
Although the arrogant, sexy strut of The Glitterati's music can't help but conjure up images of Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones, they manage to embody what it is these bands stand for whilst giving it their own unique twist. If there's anything to criticise with this single it is only that it's not long enough; although its two tracks are satisfying, it leaves you begging for more. The only consolation is that an album date has finally been set for 23rd May. Recorded in Los Angeles with help from producer Mike Clink (responsible for Guns N' Roses' Appetite For Destruction) their self-titled album hopes to be just as irresistible as what we've seen so far.
