Three very different songs...
They open with “Bury You” - a slow but heavy rocker. The bizarre sounds, with vocals that are even more so, match the core spirit of The Barbs perfectly. It shows the gentler side of their music, but without drifting too far; encompassing tense build ups before the flood gates open and it all pours out - wave upon wave of crashing sound.
The next track will blast your brains out of your head and plaster them on the wall behind you. Fast and furious, with vocals that stick and brilliant lines like “I’m Beat Bunny, I aim to please, I’ll make you smile, I’ll make you sneeze”, “Beat Bunny” has more energy than all of those Duracell Rabbits put together. It’s plugged into the mains and frightening the National Grid. This is one mean number with even meaner guitar playing provided by Tim (vocals and guitar) and Amy (vocals and guitar). “Cola Float” has a heavier beat to it and the solid lines from Jim (bass) and Simon (drums) shine through here. The number hangs on this so perfectly that little needs to be said. Listen to it and you’ll understand.
They’ve provided a perfect showcase for their talents here. Three very different songs for a very different band. The Barbs are set to redefine “Cool” in the music world, or any other for that matter.
