A delightfully kooky, slightly spooky track from troubled alt-rockers...
Alt rockers Eels, fronted by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett have always had a knack for writing tracks that never fail to fascinate, and the new single, 'Trouble With Dreams' is no different.
'Trouble With Dreams' captures a dream-like atmosphere of troubled, interrupted sleep with its mix of pretty, twinkling xylophones with almost sinister, slightly spooky keyboards. With a sound that resembles something you might expect to hear in some old back and white horror movie, the track's up-tempo beats and a catchy melody keep the song rolling along, but it's Everett's fantastically gravely morning-after vocals that really give the track its passion and intensity.
Taken the massive double-album 'Blinking Lights and Other Revelations', 'Trouble With Dreams' is great example of alt-rock that amalgamates everything there is to love about Eels: intelligent song writing, a catchy melody that provides equal measures of hope and desolation, with a dash of kooky dark humour. A great track for old and new fans alike that will certainly haunt your dreams for a few nights at least.
