Emo but not quite as bad as we know it

Well Saosin's head is buried firmly in the Emo zone. Saosin have been popular tour companions for the likes of My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday and AFI, and it's no real wonder really. "Bury Your Head" is chock full of the Emo style stereotype vocals, sound and lyrics. However, surpringsly, the song didn't grate on me, why?

Well for starters, the opening guitar riff is nice and catchy and the drumming quite hard. Sure, as soon as the vocals start, we get that "All American Rejects" sound, with some extra emo-sauce added, but there is a definitive tune throughout. Looking over Saosin's back-catalogue, this track has been remixed, redone and butchered to death. I quite like this new version, which is a slowed, sludgy recreation of the track. There are less screamy lyrics and more rounded chorusing throughout, with a simple, but solid beat.

Some might say, however that we could all do without re-exposure to it yet again. The fact that the band sound bored and annoyed at points doesn't help so much. Sure this isn't such a bad track, but real fans will probably be annoyed and people new to Saosin might simply discount the album as more emo-pap, though in fairness, there's potential here. Mediocre is the word here.
