Indie/Electro Crossover
Leeds five piece Stateless offer their debut single 'Exit' after signing to Berlins !K7 label. They've already developed a strong fan base away from their hometown and have consistently been noted as having recorded and toured with DJ shadow and worked with Arctic Monkeys producer Jim Abbiss.
New single 'Exit' is definitely rooted in the crossover indie/electronic scene. With its soothing layers of cinematic orchestral strings and powerful, almost epic passages. Chris James adds a distorted and hazy vocal to the track, which builds up to a glorious fusion of frenetic scratching jazz loops and fuzzy techno. This may take us back to the likes of DJ Shadow's UNKLE project or even the trip hop days of Portishead.
It's refreshing to hear a band that doesn't want to sound like everyone else at the moment. Beats are making a comeback and I wouldn't be surprised to hear more from this band soon.
