Love' em

The Perishers are not afraid to nail their colours to the mast. They're different, they know it, and they're proud of it!

They open with "Sunchild", an upbeat, light number. It's enjoyable, fun music without pretensions. (But no warning of what is to come!). "92" takes you deeper into what is a layered sound, both for the track, and the band. The lighter vocals over heavier, sharp guitars work well.

"Anyway" has that 60's feel to the sound, with the bass melting into the melodic acoustics to produce a sound, and song, that has "I wanna be a single!" written all over it. "Dark Days" is a deeper level again, with a touch of "Lennon" to it. It's a mature number and has great bass work.

Then there's "Hurts Like Hell" a "lay back and watch the clouds" number, love the "noise". There is great interplay here between the created sounds and the naturally melodic vocals. Much of the same can be said for "Weird", however, it contains slightly dark undertones. The disciplined drum work on this number is the bone that the meat clothes, but does not cover up here.

"Your Fat Mouth" brings you back to a rock beat with a touch of techno sound. Vocals, guitars and those "noises" work overtime on this one. With lines like "Crucify my song, but it won't make you better", it's in your face before you realize it.

The music takes another different turn with "Turnham Green"- melody spelt M-E-L-O-D-Y. This track really is a huge helping of country rhythms and summer love.

Stepping up the pace "Golden Glow" gives us that "rock with twitches of techno sound" - fast paced and balanced. An album of this music on its own would be a gem.

They finish with "Well", which serves up everything these guys put into their music. Melody, rhythm and perfectly placed noises.

Yet again it's great to find a band that makes good use of all it's got; namely talent by the bucket. Coming out on Head Records, "Hurts Like Hell" is The Perishers' debut album.

This album also features two samples by the Spectrasonics. Both excellent tracks in their own right they're slightly akin to "Golden Glow", although a bit heavier on the techno side. Good upbeat numbers that mix the techno/rock sounds together really well and with imagination.
