Biffy Clyro master a bouncy and likeable pop-rock sound that will make more people take notice
Having released two albums previously, Biffy Clyro seem to have hit the big time with their third album ‘Puzzle.’ Taken from this album, their forthcoming single ‘Who’s Got A Match?’ is a resounding wake-up call for anyone who’s had their head in the sand for most of 2007 and is yet to hear any material from the band.
To wake up the newcomers, the song begins with a few pounding notes leading into an upbeat marching drum rhythm, and from this alone the song seems to possess a strident confidence that here is something you have to like. When the vocals kick in the retained Scottish twang makes it all the more distinctive, and the heavy bass and pounding drums drive on into a short, bouncy chorus with simple lyrics. The guitar work in the middle of the song is nothing special, but the sheer volume of the riffs and the way they are used to bring the song to its peak pulls everything together. In short, it has all the makings of a solid pop-rock song that is likely to bring in more fans.
The press release mentions that the track is a “live favourite amongst fans” and I can really see how, with the song’s huge anthemic sound and sing-along chorus that will have the crowd bobbing up and down like none of them can see. A cracking, if slightly simple, single in itself that will no-doubt sound even better when the band start the festival circuit in the summer.
