Coordination and Confidence
Smother kick off with 'Use'; a fast paced number that makes good use of firework style axe playing throwing out spinning wheels of sounds to great effect. Vocally it is a mixture of song and snarl which matches the music perfectly. The band produce a tight number here with good rhythm and control. Smother are a 'band' as opposed to being individuals that play together, they have coordination and confidence in both their music and each other.
'People Stay The Same' has an altogether softer feel to it on the surface with spirals of psychedelia surfacing, but there is an undercurrent of passion that pulsates through this number. It is different in its form from 'Use', but the fact that it works so well only underlines the guy's ability and confidence to serve it up as a counterpoint.
