Envy and Other Sins - Highness
Remember Channel 4’s Mobile Act Unsigned? Yup, neither do I. Anyway, ‘Envy and other Sins’ apparently won the competition with their ‘catchy riffs and upbeat pop style’. I’d ask you to join me in extending my congratulations to them, but that was a while ago and they’re probably fed up with the attention.
‘Highness’ is, apparently, the song, which won them the prestigious prize of Channel 4’s Mobile Act Unsigned. It does pretty much what it says in the press release: It’s catchy, it’s poppy and then it’s instantly forgettable. There’s no doubt that people will like, it’s a good little pop song. Just don’t expect your world to cave in because of the strength of the material.
I really wanted to end this with some kind of play on their name. Something like Envy and the sin of being shite (it’s late), but you can’t dislike ‘Highness’. Sure, it’s not a classic, you’ll probably forget about it soon after listening to it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it? Right?
