Happiness is; sunbathing in a calm sea of warm chocolate fuzzyness
An interesting offering to the gods of music; “Happiness” combines a skippy marching rhythm, the charming twinkling of fireflies characteristic of Flaming Lips tracks and the kind of lyrics a child writes (e.g.; join our group/and you will find/homily and peace of mind/make you better/we’re here to welcome you): A sickly sweet refrain to all that makes misery cool by default. It might well be the sound of happiness, but some children scream with happiness and that’s not the sound you can listen to whilst you’re sunbathing in a calm sea of warm chocolate fuzzyness. It’s not bad and could probably put a smile on your face if it had to, but it’s far from the best thing Goldfrapp have put out, and I’m really not sure it needs two different CD releases • the “Maxi” CD has two B-sides. Worth checking out, but I’m not sure I’d pay for it. Ross Fisher
