Kick Box Riot - Seeing Ghosts
Have you ever seen ‘Primal Fear’ It’s this awesome film starring Richard Gere and Edward Norton. Basically, Edward Norton kills this kiddy fiddling priest and Richard Gere spends the whole film defending him knowing he did it. Edward Norton is really a little bit slow, but has this real nasty split personality which makes him all murderous.
So Gere, in his handsome, forthright and humanitarian way goes about defending the indefensible all the while knowing the Norton is a murderous bastard at heart. Because the jury are so taken by Gere’s fabulous acting talent, they buy it and Norton gets off (kinda). Anyway, in the end it turns out that Norton really is an evil murderous bastard and there’s nothing Gere can do about it.
Real comparisons can be drawn between the character of Edward Norton and ‘Kick Box Riot’. On the face of things, ‘Kick Box Riot’ are just a nice bunch of kids from Wales. Kids that would never ever harbour ambitions of murder. Unfortunately, just like Edward Norton, ‘Kick Box Riot’ have an evil murderous side. So evil and murderous that they have chosen to murder 6 songs.
Don’t be fooled, ‘Seeing Ghosts’ is truly truly awful. No amount of hanging out with Peaches Geldof or indeed being seen in the same room with Noel Fielding or any other Mighty Boosh hanger on could save this album from the depths of musical mediocrity that it is surely destined for.
What is it? Is it indie? Is it like some post-Taking Back Sunday/Libertines crossover? Seriously, I have no idea. It’s happy bouncy indie music, I think. It does have nice walking and bouncy bass lines, but the levels are all wrong. The singer’s voice is absolutely horrific and it’s generally just a bit of a shambles of an album/EP. Save yourself the time and money and watch ‘Primal Fear’ instead.
