“re.de.fine” is a brilliantly put together album. Soil grab you with their screaming vocals, whilst just avoiding kicking your head in with their excellent music. These guys can’t help but play well.

They use, what appear, to be basic lyric lines like “And every time I loose…” in “Redefine” to great effect, and an influence of 70’s heavy rock shines through in the delivery of lines, particularly in “Remember”.

“Can You Heal Me” is one of those numbers that has a huge kick in the chorus, which when it’s delivered is like being slammed into a wall. The bass work on this number is particularly impressive. And the final track “Obsession” has been placed perfectly in the album, as it has a slightly lighter feel to it without loosing the impact that Soil deliver, and if you need to get back to the real world this gives you time to do without compromising the sound of Soil. The only track that isn’t inline with the rest of the album is “Love Hate Game” but maybe those very words are the reaction Soil want.

“Pride” and “Remember” are the jewels in this crown. Ryan's vocals both compliment and challenge the music produced by Shaun and Adam’s excellent axe work and, as ever, the bass and drums hold this sound together. Tim’s bass leaves a particularly well-defined boot print in the brain, whilst Tom’s drum work provides the powerful background for the rest of the band.

Soil produce a powerful sound that is consistently good, so to single out tracks is tricky. This is an album you need to listen to fully appreciate it, unfortunately that’s not easy to do when this sound has you head banging and bouncing around the room. This comes highly recommended.
