60's love- minus the campfire!
Imagine yourself back in the 70's. You can't? Neither can I. But anyway we all have that image of people being cool, living in a world full of colour etc. (No, No. No drugs… Just happiness). Well that is exactly how it feels to be at a Clayhill concert. Avoid their gigs if you are searching for heavy guitar riffs as you will not find them.
The venue in itself puts you in a whole new magical atmosphere. The gig took place in a theatre at the Conway Hall. The acoustics were simply brilliant and the band stunning. When you see that the crowd ranges from people in their early twenties to people who are in their sixties and over, you know you are about to attend something very special. And it was.
The music of this three-piece was just beautiful and really touching. The mix of soul and acoustic sound was absolutely fantastic. The whole audience was transported in a universe made of beauty and melancholy and you find yourself totally disconnected from the rest of the world. Listening to their sound and their slow motion tunes make you go through a whole range of emotions: from sadness to joy, from introspection to exaltation.
Additionally, Gavin Clark's voice was just perfect and with the guitars and keyboard, really succeeded in offering us a great show. It is unnecessary to mention how superb the lyrics were. Attending their concert is not only about being there and enjoying the music, you listen to each and every word and you feel each and every vibe that comes out of them. It is reassuring to see that real musicians still exist and that there will always be real artists to catch up with the whole bunch of commercial “stuff” (as you can not call it music) we (unfortunately) see on music stores' shelves.
Though being with hundreds of other people, it felt as you were in a very intimate venue. Only one thing was missing: a fire camp where we could all have sat around and enjoyed the music.
After a very stressful day at work, listening to Clayhill's indie, rock-folk sound was just the perfect therapy to put you back in a peaceful state of mind. Let's hope that this group will get real recognition in the UK and beyond!
