Johnny Truant reside in Brighton, they used to be called Severance until they decided to rename themselves after a drug-addled criminal. Undergroove discovered their gem of a Dave Chang (Stampin' Ground, earthtone9) recorded demo through our mutual friends in Matter and promptly asked to put out their music. Scraping pennies together Johnny Truant recorded four additional tracks with Mr Chang at Philia Studios in Oxon, UK, and, 'hey presto' the foundations for their Undergroove debut album were laid. Next up the Truants headed down to Swansea, Wales, to remix the album at Mighty Atoms Studios with Joe Gibb (Liberty 37/ Leftfield, Catatonia), and then Aaron Turner (Hydra Head Records, Isis, Old Man Gloom) said he'd like to create the album's artwork. The end result of all these processes is Johnny Truant's debut album 'The Repercussions Of A Badly Planned Suicide' which is released in September 2002.

Citing everything from the US underground noisecore scene to Iron Maiden as an influence, Johnny Truant have already been described as Raging Speedhorn meets JJ72 (rock sound magazine) and an emo band playing death metal! Having already notched up gigs with label mates Charger, Matter, Raging Speedhorn, Medula Nocte, Labrat, Mahumodo and Sikth, Johnny Truant intend to gig as much as possible.
