Morning Runner

Morning Runner are Matthew Greener (Guitar & Vocals), Tom Derrett (Bass), Chris Wheatcroft otherwise known as Fields (Keys) and Ali Clewer (Drums). Formed in Reading two years ago, Matthew bonded with Tom and Ali with an aim to write and perform great songs and to have a good time in the process.

Whilst tentative about adding a pianist to what they thought would be a garage rock band, they decided that longtime friend Fields was simply too good a musician not to be in the band. The music that resulted became both big-hearted and brash; the four members drawing on influences from their love of Radiohead, the Strokes, Cat Power, Elbow and Grandaddy

The band were signed to Manchester indie label, Faith and Hope Records in 2003. After putting out The Great Escape 7" EP in 2004 they played numerous gigs around the country and simultaneously became one of the hottest bands on the A & R circuit. . This led to the band signing with Parlophone Records in November 2004 and paved the way for a busy schedule in 2005.

Morning Runner began the year by spending time in the studio with John Cornfield to record their debut EP on parlophone, 'Drawing Shapes EP'. "I'd had a funny weekend," remembers singer/guitarist Matthew of the inspiration for their EP title. "I was tired and you notice things that you don't normally notice... I realised that everything was generally a square or a circle. And when you see the blueprints for a building or whatever, they're always made of lots of little boxes. This is our first EP, it's us drawing shapes." The dynamic EP led to a whole host of plaudits by NME, The Guardian and Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley.

The band have also built up quite a live reputation this year playing
support slots with Snow Patrol Athlete, Ian Brown, The Pogues, Bloc Party, The Music and most recently with Coldplay on their stadium tour. NME recently saw the band and described them as ''Ambitious big hearted swooning pop....there's something of the night about Morning Runner; a dark soul band who have more in common with Nick Cave than the bleeding heart of Mondeo man they are set to accelerate'.

Morning Runner release second single 'Gone Up in Flames' on August 1st and play a full Uk tour throughout August, the first date in London at the Barfly on 1st August.
